Day 11 - Nuremburg, Germany and Day 12 - Berlin, Germany

Day 11 - Nazi Rally Grounds and Documentation Center

For our last day in Nuremburg we visited the Nazi Rally Grounds and Documentation Center.  I really loved the way the documentation center was set up.  It was well done.  A lot of the hallway were very long and narrow and the rooms were dim.  The walls were mostly rough exposed brick.  Seeing as the center was documenting the rise of the Nazi party, the building of their Rally Grounds, and the war crimes of the Nazis, this was very appropriate.

After the documentation center we walked the grounds to get to the Zeppelinfeld where the grandstands were.  It was rather odd walking through the grounds.  Just outside the documentation center, one of the buildings has been made into the Symphony.  There were people in suits and dresses walking around.  The lake is also very beautiful and there were a lot of joggers.  In one of the parking lots, there were people taking wedding photos - with the backdrop of the Colosseum-like Congress Hall.  It was very strange to see on what used to be the rally grounds of the Nazis.  The other really strange things I saw was that people were posing for pictures on the ledge of the grandstands - where Hitler used to address his party.  I thought it was pretty inappropriate actually.

Day 12 - Bike Tour through Berlin

Today, after a five hour train ride, we made it to Berlin!  Our hotel is pretty awesome.  Everything is really bright and modern looking.  We had to leave soon after arriving to go on a 4 hour bike tour of Berlin.  It was awesome!  Berlin is really such a great city.  We visited a lot of historical sites - we saw several monuments and old churches/buildings, one of the longest remaining pieces of the Berlin Wall, checkpoint Charlie, the Reichstag building, a few museums, the Tiergarten, the Holocaust memorial and a few others.  The bike tour really was a great way to see the city.
